What SMS notifications do
SMS notifications let you send text messages directly to your clients when invoices are created, when payment reminders fire, or when you are on your way to a job. Clients receive an SMS alongside (or instead of) email, which can improve open rates and response times for field service businesses.
What you need
A Pro subscription. SMS is a Pro-only feature - there's no SMS allowance on the free plan.
Your clients must have a phone number on file and must opt in to SMS.
Turning SMS on
- 1
Go to Settings in the left sidebar.
- 2
Click the Notifications tab.
- 3
Find the SMS Notifications section.
- 4
Toggle Enable SMS notifications to clients on.
- 5
Toggle on the notification types you want to send by SMS (invoices, reminders, etc.).
- 6
Click Save.
Use the Send Test SMS button in Settings to fire a one-off message to your own phone and verify everything is wired up.
Enabling SMS opt-in per client
For compliance, each client must individually opt in to receive SMS from you.
- 1
Open a client from the Clients list.
- 2
Click "Edit client".
- 3
Enter the client's phone number.
- 4
Check the "SMS opt-in" checkbox or use the Request Consent button to send the opt-in SMS.
- 5
Save the client.
SMS notification types
Invoice delivery: send an SMS when a new invoice is created and sent.
Payment reminders: include an SMS with automated reminder emails.
On My Way: a one-off SMS sent from the invoice detail page when you are headed to a job (see the On My Way article).
Included messages and overages
Each Pro account includes 50 SMS per billing cycle. Additional messages bill as overage at the standard per-message rate (see your Settings > SMS section for the live usage counter and rate).
