What to include on a handyman invoice

A handyman invoice should cover a wide range of small jobs without confusing the customer. Include your name or business name and contact info, the customer name and job address, the date, and a unique invoice number. Because handyman work spans many tasks, describe each task on its own line, then separate labor from materials so the customer can see where the money went. If you charge a service-call or minimum fee, list it plainly. A brief note of what was completed protects you if the customer later questions the bill.

• Service call or trip / minimum charge
• Labor, hourly or per task
• Materials and hardware
• Specialty work (drywall, mounting, assembly, minor plumbing or electrical)
• Disposal or haul-away of old fixtures and debris

Payment terms

Handyman jobs are usually paid on completion, since most are same-day visits. For bigger multi-day projects, a deposit for materials up front plus the balance on completion is reasonable. State whether you have a minimum charge or trip fee so a customer with a five-minute task is not surprised by the bill.

How to get paid faster

Bill on the spot the moment you finish, while you are still standing in the customer’s home and they can see the result. Carrying a card reader or sending a quick payment link means you walk away paid instead of mailing a reminder a week later. Itemizing materials separately also makes your labor rate feel fair and reduces pushback.
